4. Avenues for Integrated Coastal Science
Partner: U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Coastal and Marine Hazards and Resources Program (CMHRP)
Date: February 2022–January 2023
Category: Design Strategy, Design Research, Human-Centered Design (HCD)Description: The USGS CMHRP and the Lab partnered to apply an HCD lens to the issue of planning and conducting cross-disciplinary (”integrated”) science in support of the Coastal Program’s strategic goals. The project team engaged with staff impacted by integrated science from within and adjacent to CMHRP, with the objective of making integrated science easier, more common, and more sustained at USGS.
Project findings encouraged meaningful co-ownership of integrated science work and products that prioritized coastal stakeholder needs over internal USGS organizational boundaries.
